Her face changes to a child with joy and happiness then her face can become someone we do not recognize, lashing out with anger and frustration. Giving her meds to calm her, so that she can go back to her loving face we so long to see.
We see the face of our dad, worn and exhausted. Dressing her, feeding her, watching her every move. He wants to be there for her as she had been there for him. Sometimes his patiences runs thin, but he loves her and will not stop helping her.
Our family feeling broken and hurt for she knows not our faces and memories of our past. Our faces not recognized by her. We have to tell her over and over again, who we are and the faces of her grandchildren and great grandchildren are and even the face of her husband, for she calls him, "that man!"
Not knowing our faces. Not knowing how to cook. Not knowing how to eat. Not knowing how to read or write. Not knowing how to dress. Why do we hold on? Why do we pray that things will change? Is it worth praying and waiting for a cure?
Yes, because when she acts like she recognizes our faces, it fills are hearts with love. She is still our mother, a wife, a sister and a friend. Hopefully, they will find a cure, not for her anymore but for others that will go down this path. Hope is all we have left. Mom passed 6/24/19, please help so this does not happen to your loved one.
