This year, Bessie's Bombshells is celebrating the life of their namesake, Bessie, who passed away at the end of March. She had been diagnosed with this horrible disease in 2012, which is how and when I was introduced to the Alzheimer's Association. I was supported by the Association through her struggles with the illness, as well as those of my dad, Charlie, who had been diagnosed with vascular dementia and passed away in August of 2022.
Watching this firecracker of a woman fade away over the past 12+ years has been heartbreaking, but I am thankful to know she is now with Charlie and she's free from this prison of a disease.
I’ve been participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s for a number of years, in order to share the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and raise awareness of this disease. Currently, approximately 6.7 MILLION Americans have Alzheimer's and that number will continue to grow, exponentially. In addition to finding a way to end this horrible disease, it is also imperative to UNDERSTAND this disease and how it affects its victims, in order to better provide care for them and their families & caregivers.
I walk to honor both of my parents, but this year, in particular, I ask for everyone to honor the memory of the original bombshell, Bessie. Raise your red lipstick in the air!
Thank you for joining me in the fight against Alzheimer’s!
