I participate in The Alzheimer's Association's Walk-to-End Alzheimer's as our family representative in honor of our mother. As her caregiver, I witnessed her sudden, rapid mental decline from a very outspoken, caring/nurturing, & creative individual to someone who could not perform basic daily tasks, communicate her thoughts, & recognize me as her daughter. I became a stranger to her as she intuitively became more frightened (the look 'of horror' in her eyes will never be forgotten). Among the 6 major types of dementia, 62% of cases in the U.S.A. are diagnosed Alzheimer's as compared to 66% of cases worldwide (May 2024 Stats).
