My mother has been battling dementia and it is heartbreaking to watch her slip away. Some days are great and she knows who I am and can recognize her granddaughter. Other days she just isn’t there and can’t hold a conversation. Someone once said to me, “the person that cares for a loved one with dementia grieves twice. Once when the disease progresses and a second time when their loved one passes.” It is very true.
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
