Hope Never Gives Up! We walk in honor of Chuck—husband, father, grandfather, great -grandfather, friend. We walk to honor all those who have courageously taken the journey and those who are now on it. As we begin our 17th Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I see how far our family and the Alzheimer’s Association have come.
In a speech that my husband,Chuck, gave at the 2nd Annual Early Stage Conference, he quoted J.R.R. Tolkien who once said; “There were many sick of malady that would not be healed.” It doesn’t matter what the malady is, rather it’s who will walk with you through your journey. Together we can replace loneliness with friendship, despondency with hope, fear with knowledge, sadness with joy, what you can’t do with what you can do, and emptiness with caring and support.
A person can still give and receive love, think and communicate with or without words. Your worth is not based in what you can do but who you are. Alzheimer’s is not the end of a person. Always remember the spirit never gets Alzheimer’s.
