As most of you know, a few years ago I lost my Dad to a combination of Alzheimer’s and Dementia. These are terrible conditions that take their toll not just on the primary person affected by the disease, but on their families, caregivers, and loved ones. There wasn’t much we could do at the time to change the outcome for my father, and the disempowerment was compounded both by that lack of treatment and the broader stigma that surrounds cognitive diseases. Sadly the statics on both the prevalence of the conditions and their devastating impacts are getting worse each year due to our aging population and societal / health trends. Fortunately there is hope!
Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping but neither are we, as we have entered a New Era of Treatment! There are now FDA approved medicines to slow the path of these diseases, and increased awareness and resources have now created a real pipeline of early identification tools and potential treatments. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support, while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
With Deepest Gratitude! Steve
