In the summer of 2012, my grandmother, Helen Forman, passed away after a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. My family, having firsthand experienced the pain that this horrible disease causes, has walked and raised funds almost every year due for the Alzheimer's Association to advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050.
My family and I have been so touched by the generosity of our friends, families and coworkers over the years. Last year we had our most successful raise ever and we have increased our team goal this year. The walk itself is a unifying experience for us and it feels good to do something to remember my grandmother and to help others. This year, we are looking forward to going into this walk with positivity, both due to recent progress towards treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s, and because of our success last year, we know what we are capable of.
We set a team goal of $20Kfor this year’s walk. I need your support to do my part! I’ve set a personal goal of $5000 for this year, but I’m so proud of my network, I just know we can do even better and get the team to over $20,000 this year.
Please make a donation to help. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. Raising awareness and funds is the best way to help others avoid the painful experience that my family endured.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
