Here is one of my favorite stories of my Mom during her Alzheimers journey.
Because of the disease my Mom was just 'in the moment' and enjoyed whatever was in her present time.....So one day I walked into her assisted living facility and she was sitting in her favorite chair with a huge smile on her face. I realized that she had chocolate chip cookie from the top of her head down to about her knees. Because of the lessons I learned from her in her disease, I was able to squelch my compulsiveness about neatness and cleanliness and appreciate how much she enjoyed the cookie. I looked at her and said, "Mom, you sure did enjoy that chocolate chip cookie, didn't you?!" She nodded her head enthusiastically and, with a mouth still full of cookie, said "Mmm Hmmm!" That look said it all! How often do we take time to actually just enjoy one thing as much as my Mom enjoyed that cookie, without worry about getting dirty, counting calories or what others will think.....just enjoying! Certainly a lesson she taught me that day! This is a personal quest for me and I would appreciate any help you may be able or willing to give.
You can send money, walk with us or just plain send me support in the way of your good thoughts. Thanks for whatever you feel you can do! Also, feel free to send on to friends and/or family that you feel would be interested.
