My name is Aaron, and I am fighting for Alzheimer's first survivor. I started this team several years ago to fight for my grandmother, Regina. I have watched my grandmother live with an Alzheimer’s related dementia, specifically FTD, Frontotemporal Dementia. My grandmother took care of me while my parents were at work when I was a baby until I first started school. After I started school, she watched me both before and after, she helped make me who I am today. But now, rather than her taking care of me, the tables are turned, and I, along with other members of my family, are tasked with taking care of her. I have watched dementia rob her of her ability to function on her own, and on her bad days, she doesn’t even recognize me.

Unfortunately, my story is far too common. There are over 5 million dementia patients in the country and over 45 million worldwide. Someone develops the disease every 66 seconds in the US and every 3 seconds abroad.

Every day, the Alzheimer’s Association provides vital support services for people living with the disease and their families through their 24/7 helpline, support groups, and educational programs. In addition, they are the largest non-profit funder of Alzheimer's and dementia research worldwide. The Association is also leading the fight on capitol hill by fighting to secure funding at the NIH and to pass vital legislation to ease the burden on caregivers and to help the millions of people living with the disease across the country.
