Welcome to our team page for the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®! Our story starts out like nearly everyone's. Our mom's emotions and demeanor began to change. She became angry very easily and couldn't remember simple words. She had some other medical issues which made things difficult to control. She began forgetting pills and eventually forgetting to eat meals. At this time we began to notice our dad really following what mom was doing and he was forgetting to eat as well. Finally, a more serious medical problem required hospitalization for our mom. This was the moment we were able to start getting them the help they needed. As they both progressed with the disease, they very unwillingly went to a nursing home. About two years later, our mom passed away from dementia. Our dad, while forgetful, was much healthier than our mom was so we were able to move him closer to us and into a memory care facility. Providence Place Memory Care was a wonderful place for him. He thrived for several months and really seemed to enjoy life. We were so happy to see him happy. About a year and a half later, he passed away from dementia as well.
We are joining this walk as a way to honor our parents and to raise funds so that families in the future may not have to go through what we went through and if we can help others out along the way with a sympathetic ear or some advice on what to expect, we are here to help others and hopefully make their journey easier.
Currently, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and over 11 million family and friends provide their unpaid care. We need your help to end this devastating disease. You can make an impact with a donation or even joining our team. Your kindness and generosity truly make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. Thank you for your support!
