In January 2022, I lost my grandfather, Pop Pop, to Alzheimer's. He battled the disease for 9 years, and throughout those years I learned first-hand just how devastating Alzheimer's really is. It started with him forgetting words, then places, then people. I'll never forget the Thanksgiving dinner when I walked through the door, went to hug him, and realized Pop Pop didn't know who I was anymore. It's a feeling unlike any other - the person that you love is standing right in front of you, but they don't know who you are, and don't remember how much you really love them. But even throughout this battle, Pop Pop never lost his smile. Even though he couldn't communicate with us, he was still always laughing, always happy. His spirit never disappeared, and that is why I am participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Because I believe that together, we can find a cure. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you!
