Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association® to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research. My Memorial is to my late mother Dr. Helen Miller, who had Alzheimer's steal some of her last years but not the spirit of a woman of education and yearning to help others learn. As a working mother of 3 in the early 60s, she still fulfilled her goal of earning her Doctorate of Education at Women's College(UNCG) at a time when women fought to be heard but as teachers, were expected to mold our youth into functioning adults. Her work at the School of Education provided hundreds of young women a role model of what impact a teacher could have in the classroom, the world but also in any one life. She could have stayed there but returned to High Point City Schools to create and lead an Alternative Day School for those youth not supported by traditional high schools. Until her death, every time I would take her out in High Point, she would encounter adults who praised her for not giving up on them and providing a chance. Let's give others the chance for research improvements to not have those memories taken from them. Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
