AstroWatt strives to the give back to the community we work in, and to the causes that are important to our team members.

For the 2nd year in a row, we have decided to walk to end Alzheimer's, as it is a cause our Mission Coordinator, Alaina, is passionate about. In 2016, she lost her grandmother, to this awful disease. Her story is below:

"After seeing some signs of the disease, my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008. A few years down the road, I was spending some time with her and singing church hymns together while I played the piano. It is still one of my favorite days we ever spent together. When I got up from the piano bench, however, the dreaded moment came - she asked, “Now, remind me, who are you again?” My heart was instantly broken. From then on, her Alzheimer’s disease progressed. My grandpa and other family members put in countless hours to take care of her and be sure she lived as full and comfortable of a life as possible. Eventually, it required more care than our family could provide and we had to move her into a memory care facility. A few years later, she passed away. 

My family and I decided to fight back in the only way we really could, to help find a cure so other families and their loved ones would not have to experience this. We fought back, and continue to fight back by raising money and "Walking to End Alzheimer’s." 2024 will be my 8th year walking! I look forward to continuing to honor my grandma, Marilyn Ryberg, and continuing to fight for the first survivor!"

After beginning this journey with our team, more and more people have come forward to share their connections to this cause as well, and it's been an amazing thing we get to come together and do.
