Grandma Louise, my Lou Bell! You’ve probably heard me mention that name forever. Well, that’s because she has always been a key participant in my life’s journey… rearing and eventually advising with love, compassion, and humor. Today, Alzheimer’s has tried to take all of that away… definitely doesn’t play nice, but by God’s Grace, I still get a bit of that from time to time, if I catch her on a “good” day. The picture shared of us was a "good" day, because she was the first to see me in my wedding gown and with tears of joy in her eyes, she said, "I was beautiful', followed by the sweet kiss on the cheek. Alzheimer’s didn’t steal this beautiful moment and I am forever grateful. It was indeed a “good” day and one I pray I ALWAYS REMEMBER. UPDATE: It has been almost five years since that picture was taken. She doesn’t say much to me these days but I feel blessed to know she still responds when she hears her name or when the family gets a little to loud, “oh hush” she says, with the sternness that reminds me she was not one to play with when she was serious… so yep, we got quiet. ☺
So since Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping, neither are we! By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising funds and awareness to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you!
