I walk to honor my father in law, Wayne Tyler. Wayne succumbed to Alzheimer's disease in 2015. He was diagnosed in 2000. The first 10 years of his life with Alzheimer's found him and his family navigating all the new normals and adjusting to the terrible milestones we all knew were coming. HIs wife, Bonnie, was his rock, constant companion and #1 caregiver. After 10 years of the disease progression, Bonnie could no longer handle Wayne's care as it was taking a physical toll on her. Wayne spent the last five years of his life in a nursing home while Alzheimer's continued to slowly strip him of his dignity and eventually his life. I walk in honor of Wayne, Bonnie, all those with the disease, and their caregivers to support the cause for a cure to help us find our first survivor.
The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure.
