Dementia isn’t stopping and neither are we.
My friend, Michael Baryo, approached me about starting a team in early 2024 to celebrate my mom, Debbie Rushlow. For those who don't know, my mom lives in a full time memory care facility. She was diagnosed with severe dementia in her 60s. It was a very scary time for my family which escalated when my mom fell and broke her hip in September 2022. Breaking a bone is bad enough, add in dementia and constantly re-learning that you broke your hip, you're in a hospital, you can no longer walk... What started as a very dark time in our lives turned out to be the beginning of mom truly getting the help she needs. After surgery and rehab, we moved mom into the full time care of Villages of St. Peters Memory Care. Who knew that a memory care facility could feel like home for mom and a second home for us? Today, we are blessed beyond measure that mom is thriving in spite of her diagnosis. She has good days and bad, but she is still the same kind-hearted, silly spitfire that she has always been.
Team Until There is a Cure was created to raise awareness and funds to advance the fight against Alzheimer's disease and all types of dementia. These funds allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research. Until there is a cure, the fight continues.
