Caring for someone with dementia is like watching someone die repeatedly. There will be so much a caregiver will have to deal with and so many difficulties
I am a volunteer Community Educator and Support Group Facilitator for the Alzheimer's Association.
I have 2 goals: to teach Caregivers what to be expecting and how to handle it. There is so much that happens during this journey. I was self-taught. Education is the best weapon you have with which to fight...you may lose the fight, but you won't be I in the dark not knowing what to do or what is happening. Secondly, to treat your loved one and others respect. Do not let let this disease steal their dignity and their value.
I am also dedicating this walk to Pete Reed, father of my best friend, Renee. He was a grandfather to Sonia as well as a dad to John and I. We lost him to Alzheimer's. He was a great man.
We have a great team. I love every one of them.
From my friends, I ask only $5-$10. Help me be a survivor.
