Team Gibbon is the name of a group of people from the Gibbon, MN area that are helping to make a difference in various charity and research organizations.  A Gibbon native, Barb, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.  We will walk to help find a cure, support the warriors fighting the battle, assist the caregivers and in memory for those lost.

This is Barb's story -

In Fall of 2014, my children noticed things were not right with me.  We made the decision to bring these instances to a doctor's attention.  My regular family doctor decided to look into the medications I was taking and make changes.  We didn't see a change in behavior or memory, so it led to visiting other doctors and more extensive tests beginning in March of 2015.  After seeing numerous doctors, psychiatrists and specialists, we were able to have multiple tests done that related to the function of your brain.

In July of 2015, my neurologist felt I was unable to perform my normal work duties at 3M, which I had been employed at for 27 years.  He did not allow me to go back to work from that point on.  At this point we still did not have a diagnosis, but continued to search.

On December 9, 2015,  at the age of 57, my life changed!  I was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. The days now are a battle.  My eyesight has been very affected from this disease. I lost the ability to read and write early in my diagnosis.  I have a hard time feeding myself and dressing.  I am very fortunate to have my husband, siblings, children and my grandchildren close by.  I have a passion for life and I live every day for my family.  I want to continue to make memories with my grandchildren.  They are truly my pride and joy.
