The first time was in 2010 when we were realizing that my dad was showing signs. And then got diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
In 2014 I started walking to End Alzheimer's for my dad. In November of 2014, we lost my dad for the last time to Alzheimer's after having it for 12 years.
In January of 2022, we lost my father-in-law, Leo Gonia, Jr. to dementia after having it for about 6 years.
My sister was diagnosed with dementia, at the early age of 56, Though, we do not know which form now. But the signs are visible. Age is not a factor in the villain called Alzheimer's (or, any other dementia).
This is why I started Memories Matter in Michigan. For those I love. And I continue to walk. For the loss of my dad and my father-in-law. And to fight for the memories of my sister, Kelly.
Memories don't just matter in Michigan to me. They matter everywhere. So help me fight by donating today!
