My mother devoted a good chunk of her life to taking care of her parents when they were both diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2000. I was in 8th grade when they were diagnosed and I watched the disease not only take my grandparents's away, but I watched the immense struggle my mother endured trying to care for them when the institutions who were paid to provide care were sub par at best, and dangerous at their worst.
I am honoring my mother this year for everything she sacrificed to take meticulous care of her parents. Unfortunately, she neglected taking care of herself, and she passed in June 2018 from stage 4 cancer.
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
