I walk for Alice Jean Myron AKA Gram, my MIL who was truly one of the greats, an original GSD and one of my favorite people in the world!
When Gram began showing signs of Alzheimer's/dementia, the Marquette Alzheimer's Association was my first resource. The Alzheimer's Association provided our family with resources (books, where to find testing sites and support groups), strategies ("how do I respond when Gram says...", next steps (walking me through the disease process), and community (individuals who were also in the same boat). At that point, I knew little about this disease and I am so grateful for Alzheimer Association's help.
Additionally, I work at MVH D.J. Jacobetti, a long-term health care facility serving veterans (and occasionally their spouses). DJJ serves, cares, and advocates for the families and the individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. My co-workers are fantastic and do an excellent job supporting our veterans (and their loved ones) as they navigate the disease process.
IMPORTANTLY: There are millions (~6.7 million Americans according to NIH website) of individuals living with Alzheimer's and related dementias. This number blows my mind! Alzheimer’s Association has a 96% score and 4/4 star rating according to Charity Navigator. This is a quality organization doing the good work: advocacy, Alzheimer's care, support and critical research, fighting to find a cure for this horrible disease.
Thank you for your support!
