Hi everyone,
The Walk to End Alzheimer's 2024 is scheduled and we are honoring my Mom who died in 2020 from Alzheimer's. I cannot believe it has already been four years since she passed away. It seems just like yesterday and like my dad said Saturday night over dinner, "Gosh darnit, do I miss her."
Even though my Mom did not know our names or our exact relationship to her at the end, she certainly knew we brought her love and joy. As soon as my kids walked in the door, she lit up! She would hug them for minutes, smiling and saying, "Ohhhhh, yes, yes yes!" We have really learned the power of non-verbal communication and how important touch is to the human soul. Here, she taught us a life lesson! We also learned the power of 'being in the moment' when we were with her.
Please consider making a donation to TEAM GRANDMA to help care and support programs for families and people living with dementia. Please also consider joining our team (it is free!) and walk with us at the Zoo on November 2nd! My mom really loved going to all of the art programs especially at the DIA and BBAC!
Our team's goal is to raise $5000!
Currently, more than 6 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
We walk in memory of my Mom who had Alzheimer's. We also walk in honor of my Dad who was her caregiver for over 10 years. The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you. XO
