I walk in the Walk to End Alzheimer's to honor the memory of my mother, Sharon Simecek, who bravely fought early-onset Alzheimer's until her passing in 2013 at the age of 69. This devastating disease not only impacted my mother but profoundly affected our family, as my father and I shared in caregiving for her for 5 years. Those years of caregiving, though challenging, deepened my understanding of the critical support needed by both patients and those who care for them.
Together with my husband, I have dedicated myself to supporting dementia caregivers through education and advocacy, driven by our personal experiences and the difficulties we faced. Participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's is not just a tribute to my mother; it's a commitment to fight for a future without Alzheimer's. Each step I take is a step towards raising awareness, funding research, and supporting those who are still fighting this disease. It's a path I've chosen to ensure that one day, other families might not have to endure the heartbreak caused by Alzheimer's.
To make a difference, we need your help. Please consider making a donation to support our walk and join us in this fight. Your generosity can lead to breakthroughs in treatment and care, bringing hope to millions affected by Alzheimer's around the world. Together, we can end Alzheimer's.
Thank you for your support!
