Alzheimer's disease is relentless. So are we.
We are Team Lannie's Legacy. We are also now Team Tom. My husband had been battling this disease for some time and passed away on February 23, 2024. He was a young man of 69 yrs old and a father of 3 adult children who had been by his side with me. I am blessed to have had them to support me and Tom through this journey.
The following was written by my daughter. Yolanda "Lannie" Carlone was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, sister, and friend. She was proud of her Italian heritage and family. She had a contagious smile and distinct laugh. Grandma Lannie always greeted her grandchildren with a smile, hug, kiss, and kind words, usually telling us "I have the most beautiful grandchildren." We all have so many stories to share about our grandmother. She was the eldest of nine children. Having a large and close family was very special to her.
As she grew older, her family and friends watched as Alzheimer's slowly took over. Although Tom and Lannie are no longer with us, we have decided their legacy lives on. We, the children and grandchildren, are their legacy. We were what they were most proud of. Alzheimer's may have impacted their memory, but the memories of Grandma Lannie and Tom live on through us.
We will fight to find a cure and end Alzheimer's once and for all. We are given one mind. We must use it, protect it, and fight for it.
