This year marks my eleventh year of walking. I first learned about dementia when I was 10-years old, when a great-grandparent exhibited symptoms and we cared for her in our home. Years later, great aunts and grandparents navigated symptoms. A few years ago several close friends' parents were diagnosed. And this year, friends in my own generation are being diagnosed. I walk in honor of all those who came before us and in hopes that my children's generation will not have to face this. I remain hopeful and optimistic that we will see a day when prevention and effective treatment is a reality.
