My mother, Betty Kessler, lived with dementia for the last 8 years of her life. Dementia takes our loved ones away - they are there in person, but not in mind. It is a terrible and devastating transition to watch. Mom-Mom, as my children referred to her, never lost her spark for life and continued to enjoy family, music and food until the bitter end. But she did lose her ability to recognize her loved ones, and her ability to perform routine activities of daily living. Families living with Alzheimers and related dementias need our support.
Alzheimer's is more than just memory loss - it is a progressive and fatal disease.
I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® on October 26, 2024. Currently, more than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease. Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. We are making a difference - on July 6, 2023 the FDA granted approval for Leqembi, the first traditionally approved treatment that changes the underlying course of the disease - data shows that the progression of the disease can be slowed by 27%!! This means more time recognizing family and friends, and more time living a life without the harsh impacts of this disease - WOW!!! THIS IS WHY WE WALK - we are making a difference!!!
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
