Alzheimer's isn't stopping and neither are we! As many of you know, my beautiful mother Kathy Wallop passed away on March 1, 2024 at only 69 years old after battling dementia for over 8 years. It was extremely difficult for my family to first hand witness my mom slowly lose her identity and no longer be the vibrant, witty, strong fun-loving woman she was due to dementia. Her death left a huge gap in our lives and we are forever changed.
Did you know that Alzheimer's disease was the fifth-leading cause of death among people age 65 and older in 2023. Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. By 2050, this number is projected to rise to nearly 13 million. The lifetime risk for Alzheimer's at age 45 is 1 in 5 for women and 1 in 10 for men.
By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this awful disease. I am walking in memory of my mother and uncle who succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease as well as in support of other family members who are battling the disease.
Families facing Alzheimer's and all other dementia need our support -- and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation to Team Wallop under Stacy Wallop or register as a participant on Team Wallop and join us in the walk in Salisbury, MD on November 2, 2024 to show your support. Your donation allows the Alzheimer's Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Thank you for your support!
