As you may know, we lost my father, Don Shein, to this terrible disease in December 2018. My Dad was always an energetic, outgoing, happy and vivacious person. As Alzheimer's took hold of him and stripped his mind of memories and awareness all of his personality disappeared. You could literally see the person we knew and loved for so many years literally leaving us a little more each and every month as he became more and more ill.

In the end, my Dad died at a Hospice facility with incredible caregivers, but with no knowledge of who he was, where he was, or who his family was. He was literally a shell of a human being -- a physical person with almost no mind or capabilities. It was and is an awful and painful thing to experience and to see.

These are difficult and challenging time for us all, but I truly cannot imagine the difficulty in caring for a loved one with this awful disease while staying home and quarantined or not being able to visit a nursing or hospice facility.

I hope that we can work to raise money to help find a cause, a fix, a cure -- literally anything that could help eliminate this disease so that others do not have to experience, feel and see what we had to in his final years, months and days.

Unfortunately, the chances are you have been affected by this -- or, unfortunately, you may have to in the near future.

I'm leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
