In addition to volunteering for the Foxboro Walk to End Alzheimer's, I am raising funds in Memory of my Grandfather, Icek "Hank" Wluka, who passed away in 2001 after a 6-year-long battle with Alzheimer's.
- He survived three years as a prisoner at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
- He survived the trek to America with my Grandmother, Brenda and their 3-year old son, David (my Dad)
- He created a beautiful life for his wife, 3 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
- He never saw the Red Sox win a World Series.
- He survived triple bypass surgery.
- He survived colon cancer.
- He didn't see the atrocities of 9/11, or the way America banded together to overcome.
- He got to meet his first Great Grandson.
On his final day with us, January 23, 2001, he looked at me and called me Brenda. He thought I was my beautiful Grandmother, and it was an amazing compliment; my one happy memory in the end. As Grandpa always said, "Beautiful."
