As we come up to the third year of my mom's passing, I reflect on why we continue to walk to end Alzheimer's. I know first hand the impact of this cruel disease that elicited frustration and sadness as our family came to terms with a diagnosis. After a couple of years of noticeable memory loss, she would spend a year in a memory care unit, then a few years in nursing homes and finally at home with my dad with the support of incredible caregivers. A phased decline would leave us with a fraction of the vibrant and witty woman we all knew.
After several years of fighting this disease, she lost her battle on September 3, 2021. While we held flowers up on walk day in the past with hope for a cure that would benefit my mom, we now hold the flower up in hope for others. We walk in memory of Marsha, a mom, wife, grandmother, sister, teacher and friend to so many, in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's®. I appreciate your consideration of support for this deeply personal cause.
