At first it is almost unnoticeable, a little forgetfulness here and there. Next, itis trouble paying bills and scheduling appointments. Simple meal prep, laundry, remembering medications or taking them too often are the next challenges. Then the cell phone, the TV, and pretty much any gadget becomes too complicated. Then there are the delusions and hallucinations. It is just soul crushing.
As of January, Mom's Alzheimer's has progressed to the point where she needs skilled nursing care. This has been the hardest transition because it is a harsh reminder that as hard as this journey has been, it will only get worse.
My mother is ONLY ONE of SIX MILLION living with this disease today. This number is expected to more than double in the next thirty years. We need to work together today to rid the world of this debilitating disease.
