It is July of 2024, and as I launch my fundraising efforts for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer's, my mom would have celebrated her 84th birthday on the 1st and she and my dad would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on the 16th. At the age of 69, she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's/Dementia. She lived with tremendous grace for 9 years with this illness, trusting that we would protect her, keep her safe and love her more than life itself during this difficult journey.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's has become a special day over the past thirteen years. It is a day that we celebrate my mom with family and friends. This is Grammie's Groupies fourteenth Walk to End Alzheimer's. My mom Sonia passed away after 9 years with Alzheimer's/Dementia on June 1, 2018. Over the past thirteen years, Grammie's Groupies has raised just over $115,800 towards this fight. It is my goal to continue raising funds for this very personal cause, but I need your support to do my part! It is my dream that one day soon there will be a cure for Alzheimer's so that all of Grammie's 'little' Groupies can grow up and live their lives, free of this devastating disease.
