My sweet mother-in-law Ellie passed away from dementia. As she deteriorated, she forgot things ( yet she still remembered some things from her younger days ) and eventually just sat down, not doing the things she loved, like cooking, spending time outside, and visiting friends. My husband and myself are doing this walk in memory of Ellie. She was the sweetest and kindest person I ever knew. Luckily my sisters-in-law were able to take care of her so she never had to go into a facility, which most with Alzheimers end up in care facilities. I currently work in a nursing home, so that is how I heard of this walk. This helps raise money for those with cognitive disorders. I have done walks for other fundraising, and I have chosen this one because the majority of money goes directly to help patients and their families. Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising efforts. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
Thank you for your support!
