My story begins with my brother Mike being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's in August of 2011. Mike was only 54 when he was told he had the disease. He was smart, strong, determined, creative and caring. Mike gradually succumbed to the disease over the course of four years. This is our 14th year doing the walk. Our matriarch, aka Mom, Grammy and Normie, remained unwavering in her desire to support this cause in honor of her son. Five years ago, two weeks before the walk she joined Mike in heaven. I know she would want us to continue with this despite being absent on the walk but still quite present in all our hearts. That is why I (we) walk, for Mike who was taken from us too soon and Mom who believed in helping to find a cure. Despite the passage of time our Team Mike keeps getting bigger and stronger. What started out as basically siblings, their spouses and grandchildren has grown to include great grandchildren as well. We all hope to see the first person survive Alzheimer's! And any contribution you could afford would be amazing and greatly appreciated by all of the members of Team Mike! Thank you from Team Mike!
