Alzheimer’s is a bitch and I seriously can't believe we haven't stopped it yet. 25 years ago this disease took Rose Mattson, our beloved Grandma Rosie, from us.
She was the heart of our family. Alzheimer's stripped her of so many dignities. It was a relentless attack on everything that made her who she was. Lover of violin and piano, a supporter of Another Mother of Peace, Lithuanian aficionado, Supervisor at Snap-On, crossword puzzle master, ice cream sharer, squishy all-encompassing hug giver, back to bed for the third time blanket tucker, and professional hum through the shit storm hummer. Her kindness to all is her legacy as she continues to give through the Rose Memorial Scholarship at Gateway College.
On Saturday, October 19th, 2024 I will be honoring this amazing woman by wearing purple and marching on. I hope that every step taken is one towards a future where Alzheimer's is no longer a menace and this disease of our family ends with her.
By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
Please consider making a donation or registering as a participant to start your fundraising. I swear it's easy!
