Alzheimer’s isn’t stopping and neither are we. By participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’m raising awareness and funds to advance the fight against this disease — funds that allow the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.
My Great Uncle Harry was one of the most interesting people I've ever met. I loved hearing his stories, picking up pecans in his backyards, watching the "chicken hawks" from his front porch and sharing a cans of apple juice with him. I remember the day that I realized something wasn't right with him. He was coming over to the house for New Year's and I watched his car drive past the driveway twice. I hoped on my bike to flag him down and he asked me if I needed help. It was then I realized that not only was he lost coming to a house he had visited multiple times, but he also didn't recognize me. It only lasted for about 30 seconds, but it was enough to scare me as child. There were many good days after that, along with some not so good. That one day gave me a huge glimpse into what this disease does to people.
I am walking so that we can life in a world where one day, no one goes unrecognized from their hero.
