I walk to commemorate all of the lovely clients and their families that have allowed us the great privilege of being a part of their journey as they navigate life with Alzheimer's and other dementias. Caring for someone with dementia is a situation that you can never truly understand until you become a part of the club, so to speak, either by helping a loved one navigate life with dementia and caring for them, or by working in a caregiving field. While it can be challenging, it also forces us to learn, grow, and ask for help. I walk so that our families can find the support they need through resources provided or support groups led by the Alzheimer's Assocation. I walk so that the Sanders-Brown institute here in Kentucky can continue the vital work of researching causes, treatments, and ultimately a cure for this disease. I walk so that my staff and I can continue to learn, grow, and provide competent and loving care and support for families until we find a cure. I walk so that someday, no one will have to know the pain of losing a loved one to dementia. Won't you join me?
