For decades, our family has been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. You see, it's not just one person who has the disease, it impacts every person in the family. For us, it has been watching the slow, devastating decline of our mother, and then the death of our father, her husband and caregiver. It has left three grown children often feeling orphaned. Their grandchildren miss having them at all of the sports, theater, music and milestone events in their lives. Their sisters and brother, nieces and nephews doing all that they can to check in and stay connected when that branch of the family tree is now broken.
This devastating disease takes intelligent, articulate people and slowly turns them into toddler-like children, and eventually into silent bodies who slowly die. We have been impacted in a way that causes us to act - to give what we can to understand, prevent and cure this deadly disease, so that no other family has to have the same painful experience that we have.
This is not an "old person's" disease... Mom was 62 at diagnoses, and we have been suffering through this since our early 30's. At least one grandchild has no memory of his grandma without the disease. It impacts all ages...all of us.
If you are able to contribute in any amount to help us walk to find an end to this disease, we are grateful. Your donations are tax deductible.
