Thank you so much for taking the time to view this page. My mom, Patricia "Patti" Flannery, continues her heartbreaking journey with Frontotemporal Dementia (similar to Bruce Willis). Her condition continues to decline and she is now immobile and completely wheelchair bound. She has a lift that transfers her to and from her bed and wheelchair. Although she spends most of the day sleeping, you can still occasionally find her laughing while watching Friends or The Big Bang Theory on TV. Unfortunately, my mom's long-term and short-term memory are greatly impacted as well as her speech but she continues to recognize me, Jesse, Grady, Reed and Calvin and is most herself and animated when we are with her. It just goes to show that she still fights and shows up for us. I am so thankful that she smiles the biggest smile whenever she sees me or my boys. It's a part of her that you can never take away.
Words cannot describe the void I now have in my life and how much I grieve over the loss of her being present in Grady and Reed's lives. Anyone that knows her is aware how much she would spoil and love those 2 boys and it breaks my heart that my mom and sons will never get to experience that joy. I will forever try to be that joy for them and make sure they know all about their "Gram". I strive to make her proud every day and make sure my boys feel the same love I continue to feel from her.
I will continue to fight for a cure so others, including my children, will never have to face this devastating disease.
