After 12 long years of physical and mental decline due to Alzheimer's disease, dad passed away on December 5, 2023. Over the past few months, I’ve been slowly grieving…and trying to channel the memories of dad from before Alzheimer’s took the sparkle from his eyes. To honor him for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, I’ll share a snippet from the end of his eulogy.
---
To wrap up, I want to take us back to the golf course. One of my favorite phrases that dad used with me regularly was “Swing hard in case you hit it!”
As I thought back on memories over the last week, I realized that this wasn’t just a good swing thought for golf…it’s a good motto for life.
And maybe, that’s really his legacy here on earth.
Dad didn’t leave anything on the line. For his whole life, he was ALL IN. Maybe it’s because he watched his own dad develop Alzheimer’s at an early age. Maybe dad was just born a go-getter.
Regardless of the reason, dad took advantage of everything life had to offer. He packed so much love and hard work and laughter and IMPACT into his life…
So…
Swing hard in case you hit it.
Go all out.
Do the things NOW.
Call the friend. Take the trip. Admit your mistakes.
Make an impact.
Live your bucket list.
