I am walking in memory of my father and mother. Dad's long struggle with this terrible disease ended several years ago. I still think of him often and marvel at his courage and his fight against Alzheimer's. His quiet strength endured long after the disease took away his ability to speak. Mom was his patient and loving caregiver. She was by his side always, even to the point of putting her own health in jeopardy. Her struggle with health issues has ended and they are both together again. I miss them both every day, but I'm glad that their struggles are over.
I walk for all of those who are still struggling and fighting against this disease. I walk for those who are the caregivers. I walk with a hope that someday there will be a world without Alzheimer's disease.
Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
I need your support to do my part! Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
Thank you for joining our movement! The end of Alzheimer's disease starts here.
