This photo is of my mother on the day Ron and I got married in October 2006 in Arizona. It was such a beautiful day, a gift in itself, with our closest family in attendance. At the time, we didn't suspect anything unusual, Mom just sometimes had 'senior moments.' But those moments got more frequent with more troubling results.
I cannot tell you how heartrending it is to have a loved one with Alzheimer's and watch their brain function change, to have them slip away from you while still being physically present. On July 28, 2015, she died from Alzheimer's Disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and, eventually even the ability to carry out the simplest tasks of daily living. Although treatment can help manage symptoms in some people, currently there is no cure and no prevention for this devastating disease.
Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide.
The end of Alzheimer's disease starts with you. #ENDALZ
