I am participating in the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's in memory of my mother as well as all the other individuals who have taken part in a dementia journey. Mom succumbed to Alzheimer's on March 14, 2014; ten years ago. Not a day goes by without my thinking of her and missing her. She spent the last year and a half of her life at Sugar Creek Special Care Alzheimer's Center in Normal, IL when it was painfully obvious that she needed more care than could be provided at home. It was heartbreaking to observe the deterioration in her physical and cognitive abilities, the inability to perform simple tasks, the loss of interest in the people and things she loved, and the disappearance of her personality over time.
The development of new drugs that slow the cognitive decline of dementia patients has given us hope, but there is still so much to be done. I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions of others. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support. I am passionate about this cause and I want to make a difference.
Please consider making a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's. For the millions already affected by the disease, the Association offers care, education, support and resources in communities nationwide. Currently, more than 6.7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, and the numbers of people afflicted with the disease continue to increase. How many people do you know who have been impacted by Alzheimer's or another dementia? If you are lucky enough that you don't personally know anyone today who suffers from this disease, chances are that you will in the future.
Thank you for your consideration and support!
