Alzheimers stole his life one day at a time. This is why I am leading the way to Alzheimer's first survivor by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's(R). Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
My mother has also been diagnosed with dementia. My choice to raise funds is very real and personal.
Watching my father decline right before my eyes has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do. He was once a crazy, outgoing and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His life was stolen one day at a time. He loved to talk, and he became silent. He whispered when he spoke, if he spoke at all. This disease robbed a healthy man of his vitality one day at a time. He had four kids. He was a dad for 60 years, and he could not remember how many kids he had, or our names. The first time he could not remember who I was, nearly killed me. Tears streamed down his face and he sobbed because he knew he should remember, but he could not recall who I was. I knew that day would come, and I thought I was prepared. I never imagined how painful it would be. I believe it was hardest for my dad.
My mother was diagnosed with Loewey Body dementia. She also became very socially withdrawn. She passed away after contracting Cov id 19 in December 2020.
Together, we can end Alzheimer's disease.
Please make a donation to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Any size donation is very much appreciated. Even five dollars is greatly appreciated.
I would appreciate anything you do to bring awareness to this awful disease. You can join this team, and walk remotely. You don't physically have to walk with us. Think of it as a remote satellite team.
I am sure that everyone reading this has been affected in some way by this awful killer!
Please consider donating, forming a team, or joining Team Carroll and Liz. Thank you in advance. Blessings to you all.
Thank you for joining the fight against Alzheimer's!
