We got the diagnosis in March of 2023. My husband is the one with dementia and only 60 years old. I say we because we both have to deal with the reality of this disease. I say we because our family has to accept that things will never be the same. He has what they call 2 part dementia, which means that his dementia is caused by 2 separate factors, shrinkage in his frontal lobe and hardening of the arteries in his brain which causes mini strokes and also leaves plaque deposits on his brain. This has been a hard bite to swallow but we continue to find new ways to help us all thrive. The immense amount of love and support has been so warming. My family thrives on the memories we’ve made with my husband and crave making as many new memories as long as we can.
Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your help, we can be there for them. Please make a donation or register as a participant and start your own fundraising. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease.
