Angeline L. Silvestri, “Angie” or Grandma, as I called her, was a light in our family throughout her life. As one of her four grandchildren there was a never ending expression of love and compassion shared with me. Many of my fondest childhood memories entail spending quality time with her at Brigantine Beach, NJ or in her home in Syracuse, NY. She shared her many passions with me and is certainly the reason for my love of cooking. In the early 2000s, Grandma was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Fortunately, early medication slowed the disease but as it does to all, Alzheimer’s slowly took over. Even though her memories faded, my grandmother never lost her love for her family or her signature Angie smile. As a Walk to End Alzheimer’s member for a few years, I decided it was time to start my own team in 2023. Team Silvestri will be walking to honor my grandmother Ange Silvestri, her sister Letizia Magats, and all other families who have or are battling the strenuous effects of any type of dementia. Together, we hope to raise awareness and funds for a cure so that one day, no family has to endure this fight. Whether you would like to donate financially, join my team in the actual walk or just express support, I am truly appreciative of it all! The Chicago walk is October 7, 2023 at Soldier Field with the Opening Ceremony beginning at 8:30 AM. Thank you!
