Hello! I am walking for my father, Michael J. Kearns, who suffered from dementia. I have been participating in the fundraising for the Alzheimer's Association for over 33 years.
Why?
Alzheimer's takes away memories --memories of childhoods, memories of vacations, memories of work, memories of school, memories of friends -- and even the memories of your family. After my father showed signs of dementia, he had to have prostate surgery.
I visited him in the hospital and tried to help him with his meal and he punched me, or rather, he punched someone he thought was a stranger who was trying to kidnap him. No doubt he was flashing back to his days as a P.O.W. during WWII. But, the reality is he had no idea who he was, let alone that he had a daughter.
Please donate to my walk so other family members don't have to experience this kind of pain -- emotional and physical!
