This year I will be walking on September 21, 2024 at Crystal Lake Park in our continued effort to find a cure for Alzheimer's. Not only will I walk for my mother, but also I will be walking for friends that I have lost recently to this disease and for other friends who are now suffering from it.
In 1999 when I became aware of the devastation of Alzheimer's on my mother, I joined the local walk, and I continue to support the walk, despite the loss of my mom in 2006. I remember that in 1999 the numbers were 4 million people suffering from Alzheimer's with a prediction of 14 million by 2050. Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.
