The land on which the Walk to End Alzheimer's - Champaign/Urbana Walk will take place on includes the traditional homelands of the Peoria, Kaskaskia, Piankashaw, Wea, Miami, Mascoutin, Odawa, Sauk, Mesquaki, Kickapoo, Potawatomi, Ojibwe, and Chickasaw Nations. By acknowledging the land, we recognize that it holds significance for its original stewards: the Native Nations and peoples of the region. We acknowledge the ground on which our Walk to End Alzheimer's will take place on so that all who work and partner with us know that we recognize our responsibilities to the peoples of that land and that we strive to address that history so that it guides our work in the present and the future. The Alzheimer's Association recognizes the importance of remembering which is why we remember and honor the original stewards of the lands we Walk to End Alzheimer's on. If you believe a Nation is missing from this list, please contact Amelia Garza, Diversity and Inclusion Manager, at amgarza@alz.org.
