In the last year, I've had many people reach out and ask "How's your mom doing?" (You know who you are, and I thank you tremendously!) The answer is mixed. At this time last year, my mother was recovering from a broken hip and femur bone. After intensive rehabilitation, she was able to walk with assistance for a short time. Unfortunately, the progression of her disease has made it difficult for her to follow commands and verbal cues, and walking is no longer possible.
On a brighter note, my mother is still the person she always was in terms of her gentle spirit and zest for life. She's become quite the singer in recent months and sometimes remembers the lyrics to songs of her day. She's overjoyed to see visitors, and always greets her family and friends with huge smiles and giant hugs. Though names have escaped her, deep familiarity and love remain in her heart.
My mother's disease has progressed, and there is no reversing that. But, I will move forward - for her - in realistic hope of more treatments and a cure. This is why I WALK. Please, consider making a donation to my fundraiser and we'll do this together!
Sincerely,
Dana
